Court sentenced woman to 10 years for possession cocaine

An Accra High Court has sentenced a Liberian woman to 10 years for attempted cocaine trafficking through the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to Bangkok, Thailand’s capital.

The convict, Wolo Maikplay Margaret, was arrested on May 14, 2022, by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

This was after she attempted transiting the narcotics through Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport from Liberian capital Monrovia, to Bangkok-Thailand whiles onboard Qatar Airways.

Following a search conducted on her 30 pellets containing cocaine weighing 277.2101grams from beneath her breast and private part.

The court thus charged her with two counts of attempted exportation and possession of a narcotic drug in violation of sections 36 and 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).

The convict pleaded guilty to the two counts and the court presided over by her Ladyship Justice Mary Ekua Yanzuh convicted her on her own plea on each count to run concurrently.

Moreover, she was fined GHC10,000 penalty units in default to serve three years additional term.
