Four Justices appointed to the Supreme Court

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed four Justices to the Supreme Court per Article 144(2) of the Constitution.

They are Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, and Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu.

A letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament to seek approval from the legislature says the appointment has become necessary due to pending and projected vacancies on the Supreme Court this year.

”As a result of pending and projected vacancies on the Supreme Court this year, the Judicial Council advised me on 4 July 2022, by letter under the hand of its chairperson, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah, of the suitability of my nominations for appointment to the Court of the following persons, in accordance  with Article 144(2) of the Constitution of the Republic.”

“Mr. Speaker, it is my respectful hope and expectation that the approval of the nominees will proceed expeditiously, to enable them assume office as soon as practicable,” the letter added.
