Free SHS, TVET not under review – Finance minister states

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has refuted claims suggesting the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) Education programmes are under review.
He noted that under no circumstances the programs are being reviewed to scrap them off as part of the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Although he acknowledged that the programme was currently facing some challenges, he said the government is committed to resolving the problems to enable the programme run effectively.
“We shall not compromise on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s commitment to giving all our children the opportunity to be educated from kindergarten to university, without the ability to pay being a hindrance.

“Free Secondary and TVET education are not under review. We will continue to fund them and we will continue to improve them,” the minister explains on Monday, July 25, 2022 when he presented the 2022 Mid-Year budget review in parliament.
Mr Ofori-Atta’s gave the clarification following media reports which suggested that the programme was under review whiles the government discuss a bailout program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
