Mahama to speak on economic challenges on October 27

Former President John Dramani Mahama would on Thursday, 27 October 2022 speak on the country’s current economy.

He will be expected to touch on issues including the weakening Ghana cedi, and the high cost of living across the country.

This was announced by the National Communications Officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi in a tweet on Monday, 24 October 2022.

Mr Gyamfi said: “John Mahama speaks on Ghana’s collapsed economy and the unprecedented hardships sweeping across the land and the way forward on Thursday 27th October at 7pm.”

This comes after the former president in a meeting with Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), held on Friday, 21 October 2022, challenged the government to be boldly to tell Ghanaians the true state of the economy.

The former President said: “The government should come clean and tell us what the state of the economy is. You must put everything on the table.”

“That is why I called for a national dialogue. I said bring the best brains together. I have been president before, it served me well. I called the Senchi Forum, it didn’t reduce my stature as President.”

He projected that if immediate action is not taken, “it will be catastrophic for all of us.”
