Ghanaian rapper Derrick Sarfo Kantanka also called Amerado as his stage name says the inspiration behind his debut album GINA was to honour her mother.
According to Amerado, the album title is an acronym of his mother’s name Georgina which means “God Is Never Asleep.”
The 37-minute-long GINA long play (LP) features star artists like Fameye, Efya, Lasmid, Eno Barony, and Epixode. The 10-track album was released on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
This, the 2022 3Music Rapper of the Year, said he was inspired by “my mom’s name, Georgina.”
He made this revelation when he appeared as a guest on Accra-based CTV’s Time with the Stars program hosted by Larry Bozzle.
He said “I’ve been doing this music for a long time, it’s quite unfortunate my father is not here to see how far I’m progressing but I feel, if my mom, on the other hand, is alive I have to do something to honour her before, maybe she is no more. I did this album to honour her,” says Amerado.
He further explained that he was also motivated to use the album to tell his story from grass to grace.
“This album is to tell people that this is the boy who was struggling way back trying to get the audience and if I am here by the grace of God, there is nothing wrong with telling people how great God is.
“My God is never asleep and he’s always going to be there for me,” Amerado acknowledged.
