I spent over GHS450k on delegates; but still lost – Defeated NDC Ashanti Region chairman aspirant reveals
Lawyer Evans Amankwaa, a candidate for the Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairmanship, has revealed that he spent a lot of money to get delegate votes. Despite spending more than GHS450,000 on delegates during the weekend elections, he was unsuccessful.
On election day, he allegedly paid GHS350 to each of the 1,400 delegates. Lawyer Evans Amankwaa told Kumasi-based Akoma FM that he paid for the delegates’ lunch and transportation. He claims to have spent more over GHS1 million before and during the NDC Regional Executives election, including campaign expenses.
He added in the interview that he is not surprised he lost the election and that he has no regrets about spending so much money. “I wasn’t surprised by yesterday’s results, even though I was confident of winning the election; I was also aware that anything could have happened, so I spent a lot of money on the recently concluded elections, but it was my decision, so I never regret my actions,” Lawyer Evans Amankwaa emphasized. Augustus Nana Akwasi was re-elected chairman of the NDC Regional Executives in the Ashanti Region after defeating Lawyer Evans Amankwa and Yaw Owusu Obimpeh.
On Sunday, November 13, the election was conducted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
